Several investigations have used immunological techniques in elucidating the effect of host parasite relationship in animals to understand that of man. Sleeping sickness, a tropical disease in man is caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense and Trypanosoma brucei gambiense. The related species Trypanosoma brucei brucei causes Nagana disease and rapid death in domestic animals. Trypanosomiasis causes land inhabitability, rapid tissue damage in animals and considerable effect on human nutrition (22).
